September 21, 2023

The 26th annual Festival Hispano in downtown Georgetown may have set an attendance record exceeding 20,000, which is how many attended the event last year.

Dating back to 1996, the festival started in Georgetown, moved to Millsboro and back to Georgetown in 2015. This year’s event was held Sept. 16.

Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long and volunteer Cynthia Gooch Copley presented festival organizer and sponsor Voice Radio Network President Kevin Andrade with a state proclamation. Andrade started his station in 2015 after immigrating from Ecuador. Joining him on the stage were sponsors, Georgetown officials and representatives from nonprofit organizations tied to the event.

The festival featured a full day of top-name and local entertainment, hundreds of vendors lining both sides of North Race Street, games, and a food festival featuring food from several Central and South American countries such as Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.

The festival featured a variety of healthcare, business, car dealer, human service, banks, Realtor, insurance and state agency vendors.

Flags of 22 nations were flying over the festival from atop the stage.
