Tessa Elling receives Lefty’s Young Citizen Award for February

April 5, 2018

Sussex Academy senior Tessa Elling celebrated with friends recently at Lefty’s Alley & Eats after receiving the February Young Citizen Award. Each month, Lefty’s recognizes and rewards a local high school senior who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and character in their homes, schools, and communities. To celebrate the student’s achievement, Lefty’s hosts a lane-side party for 10. Each monthly recipient is considered for a $1,000 scholarship which will be awarded in May 2018.

Elling was selected for her strong leadership both in school and the community. “Tessa is an extremely impressive young citizen, and everyone at Lefty’s can’t wait to see what the future holds for her,” said Jennifer Gooner, Lefty’s director of operations.

Elling is an accomplished student and athlete participating in water polo, swimming and lacrosse. She has been a key volunteer at St. Ann’s Catholic Church for more than four years, and she recently attended the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Conference. She plans to attend the University of South Carolina next year to study visual communications.

Area high school seniors who exhibit strong leadership in their schools and community can apply for Lefty’s Young Citizen Award and Scholarship by going to www.iloveleftys.com.
