There’s another reason Ledogar must be elected

October 28, 2016

Besides the assets Leslie Ledogar will bring to the Sussex County Council that have already been well-documented in previous letters - big-picture intelligence, collaborative approach to solutions, work ethic and experience in fields that are the source of some of Sussex County’s greatest challenges - there’s one I haven’t seen mentioned. It is that she is a woman.

Yes, I’m playing the woman card. It is roundly acknowledged that women play a critical role in the governing of jurisdictions large and small, in the corporate world, in any organization where small groups of people make big decisions that affect large numbers of people and their futures. Women have a different world-view, which has sometimes been molded by their own struggles and attempts to make their own lives and the lives of those they love better. Women are often the mediators, finding the best in both sides and looking for common ground. I have seen Leslie do this more often than I can count.

We need a woman’s voice on Sussex County Council to continue the balance Joan Deaver brought during her tenure. “Balance” is the operative word. Do we want five men to run Sussex County’s present and future? Or, is a strong female voice what is needed right now? For me, there is no question about it. I urge you to vote for Leslie Ledogar and that you share your perspective on this decision with your friends and neighbors.
