Thomas J. Parsons Sr., retired electrician

Thomas J. Parsons Sr., 81, of Selbyville, formerly of Mantua, N.J., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at his home.

He was born in Kingston, Pa., Nov. 6, 1935, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1955-60. During his time in the Navy he learned his trade of being an electrician.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Tom worked as an electrician for several companies from Sun Ship in Chester, Pa., Campbell Soup in Camden, N.J., Del Monte in Swedesboro, N.J., and Ekco in Clayton, N.J. Tom moved to Selbyville in 1991, and worked for Gerone Hudson Electrical Contractors in Frankford for over 10 years before completely retiring in 2013.

Tom enjoyed going to the CHEER Center in Ocean View, where he played poker twice a week. He also spent his free time woodworking, making furniture, dollhouses and whirligigs.

Tom was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Parsons at the age of 18. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Jane (Roper) Parsons; two daughters, Lisa Williams and her husband David of Bear, and Susan Parsons of New Castle; a son, Thomas J. Parsons Jr.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services and burial are private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Tom's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
