Celebrate Excellent Care

Tis' the season to remember to thank and to give

November 29, 2016

During the months of November and December we pause to remember, to thank, and to give. There seems to be an inherent gene deep down inside each one of us that is triggered to remember, to thank and to give during this special season. On Nov. 19, the community and the Beebe Healthcare Family gathered to celebrate the 29th Annual Thanksgiving Ball to do exactly that! Family descendants of Drs. James and Richard Beebe, physicians, nurses, clinical staff, administration, board members, local officials and friends reflected and gave thanks for 100 years of caring! In the spirit of the celebration, the Thanksgiving Ball gathered loyal and strong supporters of Beebe Healthcare who contribute to our local community healthcare system. It was an evening of pure joy and celebration, with a contagious giving spirit permeating the hearts of over 500 attendees.

Beebe has been the heart of our community, and that is why this year's ball designated its funds to the Cardiac and Vascular Services Department. Beebe plans to build an additional catheterization and electrophysiology lab and a new hybrid operating room for advanced procedures. Dr. Carlos Neves, a vascular surgeon who attended the ball, shared, "It is so exciting to see so many people in our community supporting our hospital and our plan to expand our services so we can offer even more minimally invasive procedures and advanced care close to home."

Over the years, Beebe has grown with our community and plans to meet the ever-growing needs of one of the fastest-growing counties east of the Mississippi. During the historic video presentation at the Thanksgiving Ball, it was often heard, "Drs. James and Richard would never believe how Beebe has grown!" Beebe has expanded over the past century due to its strong leadership, excellent team of clinicians, and countless generous donors who acknowledge Beebe for always being there, saving their lives, and caring for their children and grandchildren. This year's ball sold out in record time, a sign of the community's desire to support Beebe's charitable mission.

This special time of year is an opportunity for each one of us, whether we attended the ball or not, to remember, to thank and support Beebe Healthcare. So many members of our families and friends have been cared for at Beebe hospital or the Tunnell Cancer Center. We all know a Beebe Baby or maybe are lucky enough to say we were born at Beebe. Maybe we are a graduate from the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing or know someone who attended our nursing school. We might be one of the 2,500 employees of Beebe who are grateful for their job. Beebe is now the largest employer in Sussex County and a strong economic engine for our community.

As we gathered with our families and friends around the Thanksgiving table, many of us counted Beebe Healthcare as one of our blessings. Now is the perfect time for all of us to remember, to be grateful and to give to Beebe so it can continue to meet our community needs for the next 100 years. Celebrating a centennial of care is not just a nostalgic walk down memory lane but a strong call for all of us to pick up the torch and to lead. If not us, who? If not now, when? We have inherited a healthcare system built by so many who have come before us. Now is the time for each one of us to make a proud, personal donation to Beebe to say thank you and to celebrate the excellent care we receive.
