Tony Lee Phillips, lifelong baker

Tony Lee Phillips, 68, of Bridgeville, passed Thursday, Sept. 6, 2017.

Tony was born July 21, 1949 in Kinston, N.C., to the late Dorothy Phillips. He was a graduate of Kinston High School. After graduation, Tony enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1967. During his honorable service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and earned an M14 Sharpshooter Medal.

As a civilian, Tony was a career-long baker. He was employed with Pet Food Production Company, which later became Pillsbury Food Production. Tony remained with the company until his retirement.

In addition to his mother, Tony was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Phillips.

Tony leaves to cherish his loving memories two children, son Tony Phillips Pate and wife Tanya Pate and grandson Aaron Pate, and daughter Bahirah Allen; six sisters, Shirley Phillips Wallace, Patricia Phillips Otero, Doris Butts, Esther Henry, Wanda Peterson and Velvatina Mapp; four brothers, Elmer Lee Phillips, James Hutchins, Michael Hutchins and Norman Hutchins; a host of nieces, nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.

Celebration of Life service is private.
