Too much speeding on Nassau Bridge

December 29, 2023

I drive over the Nassau Bridge every morning, Monday through Friday. On any given day, I have three to six cars almost hit my bumper as I travel the speed limit in the right lane, which is the slower lane.  As the drivers angrily zoom past me in the left lane, I can't help but wonder, what does a “strictly enforced” 45 mph sign on this bridge mean? A lot of vehicles do not follow the speed limit on this bridge, and I know others are aware of this. Also, I know the state has warning signs that identify the speed vehicles are traveling. What has the state found in its data? My suggestion is more police presence before and after this bridge, and more often than we have now. Maybe if the word gets out and stays out there that the police monitor and ticket folks speeding on the Nassau Bridge and often, people will slow down. One can only hope.
