Tools to Thrive During the Holidays program set Nov. 12

November 1, 2022

HealTree will present a program on Tools to Thrive During the Holidays, facilitated by Catrina Stiller, at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1632 Savannah Road Suite 10, Lewes.

Breathwork encourages conscious awareness of the breath. There are many different types of breath techniques, and all types of breathwork offer improved mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. Breathwork helps regulate the nervous system. When one practices breathwork, an individual can increase self-awareness and patience; reduce stress, anxiety, and grief; release trauma and fear stuck in the body; increase energy levels; and reduce physical pain.

Somatic movement is a practice which is performed with conscious attention focusing on the internal experience rather than the external movement or its result. Soma refers to the part of the being that allows a person to sense and feel. This practice helps people creatively engage with emotional, physical and cognitive processes through their soma. Engaging in a movement practice enables an individual to rewire the connections between the brain and the body. Often, these practices work on healing the physical effects of trauma, anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia and muscle tension, and help increase one’s emotional awareness.

Reflection is a self-assessment practice that encourages one to reflect on past experiences and past opportunities for growth. Through this practice, one can rewrite old stories that no longer serve them, examine why things happened and explore ways to move forward. Reflective practices increase self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Increased emotional intelligence allows for one to be more in control of one’s emotions and express them in a way that positively influences intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships, and increases empathy and compassion.

In this workshop, participants will learn about breathwork, movement and reflection. By practicing these techniques in a gentle, calm and supportive environment, participants can add more tools to their toolbox to be ready and waiting for the stresses of the holiday season. Cost is $49 per person.

Stiller, the workshop facilitator, is executive director of HealTree and a licensed professional counselor of mental health in Delaware. She holds a certification from the National Board of Certified Counselors, a Reiki II certification, and a Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention Certification; she has also completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training. She loves to provide people with tools they can use to move from surviving to thriving.
