UNICO Rehoboth sponsors pasta challenge
UNICO, the largest Italian-American service organization in the United States, aims to aid local and national charities, promote good citizenship by means of community service, and preserve Italian culture and language. Many of the organization's projects combine these goals, as was the case at the most recent Rehoboth Area Chapter meeting March 23.
The Delaware District governor had recently attended the national mid-year board meeting in Orlando, Fla. He gave a brief report on scholarships, disaster relief aid and upcoming events. The members then enjoyed presentations by Art Chomas, Charlotte Verciglio, Julia Canterna and Frank Cappelli, who described the pasta recipes they entered in the pasta challenge competition, and allowed members and guests to sample each one and vote for their favorite pasta.
Although all four recipes were exceptional, the homemade gnocchi presented by Charlotte Verciglio won the competition. She was awarded a $100 gift certificate from the local restaurant of her choice. Proceeds from the evening's events will be donated to local charities.
The next project for the Delaware Chapters (Rehoboth Area and Delmarva) of District 1 will be a Cooley's Anemia Awareness Symposium and Walk-a-thon Saturday, May 6. For more information, contact unicodelawaredistrict1@gmail.com.
