Vikings Lacrosse Camp navigates into Lewes

June 22, 2017

Former Cape All-American and Virginia Tech all-star Meg Bartley brought her Vikings Lacrosse Camp to the fields and turf of Cape Henlopen High School June 19-21, where more than 100 young lacrosse players learned the skills and strategy to be future stars on teams throughout the area.

It’s the fifth year of the camp, and an all-star staff taught fundamental skills through advanced game concepts with an emphasis on fun. Cradling, passing, ground balls, shooting, and stick work were emphasized to the younger players, while the older players concentrated on concepts of the game, strategy and improving their fundamental skills. All players scrimmaged while playing lead-up games to make the camp an enjoyable experience for all.

Cape Henlopen Athletic Trainer Sheryl Burris was available throughout the camp hours to assist with any first aid.

Bartley, a 2011 Cape Henlopen All-American who holds the all-time draw record at Virginia Tech, assembled a staff that includes former Virginia Tech teammates Maddie Doan, Kelci O’Donnell, Haley Lukefar, Molly Soule, MC Byrne and Kelly Glatthorn, as well as Kat Judge and Allie Yeager from Winthrop University; Lilly Byrne, Jenna Delong and Nikki Carpenter from James Madison University; Anna Frederick and Erinn Davis from Temple University; Kaitlin Hardt from Franklin & Marshall; Brook Lawler from George Mason; former Wesley College all-star and Cape head coach Lindsey Eichner; Leigh Rupar from the University of Delaware; and Sarah Piazza from Penn State.

“The campers get awesome instruction from a great staff,“ said Bartley. “We really focus on having fun while teaching the skills needed to be successful at playing lacrosse.”
