Winner names Homes of Hope for charity donation

Volunteers build sustainable homes for those in need around the world
January 14, 2017

John Sertich and Clean Energy USA sponsored an event where participants were asked to guess how many jelly beans were in a container with the winner naming a charity to donate to.

Winner Nicole Pepper selected Homes of Hope as the recipient of a $800 donation. The local, nonprofit has a mission to provide adequate, sustainable housing to families in impoverished areas of the world and empower local churches and community leaders to implement long-term positive transformation and strengthen community connections.

Homes of Hope volunteers convert old shipping containers into sustainable homes that are safe, clean, insect resistant, hurricane proof and require no utilities to operate. The container homes are built in conjunction with U.S. partners and delivered internationally to locations in need.

The funds from this donation will be used to create a battered women’s refuge center. Two containers will be stacked on top of one another to allow for a 4-unit shelter on the second floor and a living area, kitchen and bathroom on the first floor.

The shelter will be installed outside Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic this spring. For more information go to www.containerhoh.org.
