A word with a negative connotation

November 10, 2023

I find it very strange in today’s world that some people still act oblivious and naive to history. So much that a person’s feelings are negated in regard to such history.

The word plantation means an estate in which crops are cultivated by a laborer. Let’s not forget most plantations were established in Africa during Colonial times. That is the same time period European countries ruled Africa. So who cultivated those plantations?

With that being said, that subject can be considered a sore topic for some to this day. Being as though someone’s great-great-grandmother was forced to cultivate those plantations. To be thought of as single-minded as a society as if that is not the blatant truth of our country is a little insensitive, if you ask me.

To invalidate a whole community’s feeling of being offended by a word that carries a history is absurd.

There are definitely bigger fish to fry in today’s society like homelessness, child neglect and abuse, and unnecessary killings. But as long as there are people trying to assume prior offensive behavior as not offensive behavior and negate personal feelings on history, that deserves some focus too.
