WRDE hosts Super Bowling competition for businesses

February 19, 2018

The inaugural WRDE Super Bowling Party was held Feb. 12 at Lefty's Alley & Eats. A total of 12 teams from local businesses competed in a bowling tournament, with hundreds in attendance wearing their favorite NFL jerseys for a night filled with fun.

Participating businesses were Beracah Homes, Bayside Jet Drive, Backyard Works, SoDel Concepts, Rosenfeld's Jewish Deli (Rehoboth), Bayhealth Medical Center, The Oldfather Group, Schagrin Gas, Ocean Pines Association, Short's Marine, That Granite Place and WRDE. Each team had four players and bowled five frames, with the six highest-scoring teams advancing to bowl another five frames.

Those six teams were then whittled down to the three highest-scoring teams, Beracah, Schagrin Gas and Oldfather Group, who advanced and bowled a complete game for the Biden Brawl trophy which will remain at the winning team’s Beracah office in Greenwood for a year. The trophy will return to WRDE in January for Beracah to defend their title.

The public was encouraged to wear their favorite NFL jersey and fans decked out for the Eagles, Ravens, Steelers, Redskins, Raiders, Patriots and more. Those wearing a jersey were given a $10 Pinguin Perks Game Card from Lefty's.

As lanes opened for the bowling tournament, other attendees played games like cornhole, pool, arcade games and Super Bowl Trivia, coordinated and emceed by John Mixon of Let's Do Entertainment. There were 10 teams competing in the trivia contest, which was eventually won by the team from That Granite Place. They earned a private lane party at Lefty's for 20 people.

"I've been waiting for a long time to bring the Super Bowling Tournament to Delmarva. Tthis was a tradition we held every year while I was part of a morning radio show in Richmond. Lefty's opened last year and made the perfect partnership and venue for this event,” said Mark Leishear, director of NTR for WRDE.

Next year’s Super Bowling Party will be held the Friday before the date of the big game.
