I love to read to learn.  To me, there are certain kinds of books which contribute to leadership development:

Inspirational stories - stories which show leaders what is possible.

Affirmation stories - confirms your believes, your actions, fuels your passions, and revives your spirits.

nformational stories - case studies or histories told to give life to principles, ideas, and techniques.

Road Maps - books designed to change your leadership principles, habits, pattens, or actions through specific action plans and guide lines.

A healthy leadership development reading list would include works within each group on a regular basis.

For an Inspirational book for your summer vacation -  I suggest, "Unbroken" by Laura  Hillenbrand.  Unbroken tells the amazing story of Louis Zamperini's life.  Zamperini's story of personal transformation, resourcefulness, honor, and resolve is remarkable.  Hillenbrand weaves a stirring tale of Zamperini's progression from restless youth, to Olympian, World War Two Flight Officer to...you'll have to read the book to see what's next.

If you are a student of military history or survival stories you will love this book.  If you are a bit squeamish - this may not be the book for you.
