Nature Conservancy thanks Dogfish Head

October 19, 2012

On Sept. 30, the folks at Dogfish Head Brewery hosted the 7th Annual Dogfish Dash, benefitting the Delaware Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. With 1,500 runners registered to run, 40 sponsors supporting the event and over 150 volunteers donating time to make it all happen, this was the most successful dash yet. And to top it all off, Dogfish’s Mariah Calagione presented TNC’s Delaware Chapter with an extremely generous check in the amount of $38,500!

In addition to Dogfish, we’d also like to thank our fantastic event sponsors: MDavis, All-Size Corrugated Products, Lighthouse Construction, Parkowski, Guerke & Swayze, Bank of America, The Country Malt Group, C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., Chesapeake Utilities, Citizens Bank, United Distributors of Delaware, McWilliams Ballard, Citi Private Bank, Quinonez LLC/David Brown Painting, Reed Trucking, Eastern Lift Truck Company, Owens-Illinois, DuPont (Clear Into the Future), Draft Magazine, INCLIND, Jefferson, Urian, Doane & Sterner, P.A., Boetler, Tyron Distribution, NEPA, Hunterdon Distribution, Hop Union, and GAMSE Lithographing Company.

We’re also indebted to the residents of Milton who tolerated (and even cheered on) the throng of runners dashing through town on a Sunday morning, directed by Seashore Striders. Our thanks goes out as well to the emergency, fire and police crews who helped keep the event safe (and also expertly tended to a pre-race medical emergency).

Members of the Surfrider Foundation and Blue Hen Organics helped Dogfish keep the 2012 Dash sustainable - with an overall recycling rate of 95 percent and only 46.3 pounds of trash - pretty amazing when you consider the thousands of people consuming (responsibly) volumes of water, food and fresh, cold beer!

As Gov. Markell prepared to hand out awards to the top runners, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Vice President Mariah Calagione presented me with a check for $38,500, made payable to the Delaware Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. This is fantastically generous gift brought Dogfish’s total giving to the chapter to over $150,000! We are extremely grateful for Dogfish’s faithful support of The Nature Conservancy’s work protecting nature for all Delawareans.

Planning will begin shortly for next year’s dash…stay tuned and make plans to join us!
