For years, the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center has brought high school boys basketball players together to compete on the hardwood over the holiday break. However, in 2010, a unique spin was put on the event as Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley issued a challenge to Delaware Governor Jack Markell. The wager: a Maryland Smith Island Cake to a Delaware Peach Pie. The inaugural Governor’s Challenge Basketball Tournament was born bringing with it a new level of excitement to this holiday basketball classic.

This year’s Governor’s Challenge tournament will take place December 26-29, 2012 at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center in Salisbury, Maryland. After winning the Governor’s Challenge in 2010 and 2011, Team Delaware will look for their third straight title while Team Maryland will look to rebound and capture their first.

The entire event is open to the public for daily admission. 2012 ticket prices will be posted in the coming months. Check our website for updated information at www.salisburychampionships.org.
