Milton best little town in the universe

November 9, 2012

Wonderful Milton, Delaware!  Here is one town where residents and visitors alike, can easily enjoy themselves.  That such a town exists is proof positive that when you combine a scenic location, a location in perfect proximity to so much of what makes Delaware The First State and in so many ways; when one considers Milton's colorful history captured in the town's historical society museum and clearly evident in the town's historic district architecture; when one witnesses the contributions that businesses, service organizations and the town's churches and schools contribute to helping make Milton ever so unique, well, one can only marvel at what the future most certainly promises for wonderful Milton, Delaware!

From the town's now thriving farmer's market and the season-ending Oktoberfest held at the Dogfish Head Brewery (co-sponsor) - "See you next season!" - to the tireless energy of the all-volunteer garden club's contribution to making Milton just that much more beautiful, one season to the next; on to the town's lovely parks and recreation options on the Broadkill River - yes, 'a river runs through it'! - and certainly recognizing the many functions so warmly hosted at the town's first-rate volunteer fire department, as well as at Milton's internationally recognized Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, one might wonder at the so-called "glue" that keeps such a town united and moving forward.

Milton is served by capable elected officials, volunteer committee members and laudable public servants.  Noteworthy too are the everyday Jane and Joe Citizens who must at times, fearlessly hold their town government accountable to the utmost in transparency and overall good governance.

Regarding all of the above, what a winning town chemistry!

Just in from the town manager's desk: Make plans now to enjoy Historic Milton's Holiday House Tour, sponsored by the Milton Century Club - Saturday, Dec. 8, from 3 to 7:30 p.m. (for tour tickets, call 684-3736 or 5544 or visit www.miltoncenturyclub.com).  And on this same date, the Milton Chamber of Commerce hosts Milton's Holly Festival (9 a.m. into evening; visit www.historicmilton.com).  The event is held at Milton Fire Hall and Goshen Hall and offers an array of all things arts and crafts and Christmas and good taste and tasting good.  What a wonderful day!

No small wonder that I must often close an opinion letter with, "Milton, the best little town in the universe!"
