Rehoboth Beach hosts Veterans Day ceremony

Lt. Col. Robert Turner, public affairs officer with the Civil Air Patrol’s Coastal Patrol Base 2 Memorial Composite Squadron Sussex County, holds a salute at the Pledge of Allegiance.
Keynote speaker Col. Matthew J. Barlow Jr., M.D. (Ret.) served in the U.S. Army from 1965 through 1987 and held many command positions while on active duty. Barlow spoke about the many contributions by the U.S. military medicine to the country from the 1800s through modern times.
American Legion Post 5 Commander Buddy Clark and Post 5’s Ladies Auxiliary President Nancy Lawrence make their way to the veterans memorial at the Bandstand. Also laying wreaths were VFW Post 7447, VFW Post 7447 men’s and ladies Auxiliary, Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 and Civil Air Patrol’s Coastal Patrol Base 2 Memorial Composite Squadron.

The Rehoboth Beach Bandstand was the site of the traditional Veterans Day ceremony sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7447 and Ladies Auxiliary Nov. 11. Veterans, residents, local officials and visitors filled the seats and area around the Bandstand to remember and honor veterans and their service to the country. The keynote speaker for the event was Col. Matthew J. Barlow Jr. (Ret.) who served in the medical corps. The Cape Henlopen High School Band was on hand to play the national anthem and several other patriotic numbers. Attendees are shown saluting the flag during the playing of the national anthem.
