A titanic battle between two storied field hockey programs in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 DIAA field hockey tournament was dominated and won by Cape Henlopen 3-0 over Tower Hill Nov. 13 on the turf at Milford.
"I looked out and saw all our girls playing inspired and it was the first I relaxed all day,” said Vikings coach Kate Windett. “The girls definitely came to play.”
Cape‘s Maggie Delp, not known for scoring, rang the bell first on a pass from Izzie Delario, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Cam Bernheimer scored again 90 seconds later off a feed from Kat Judge for the Vikings, making the score 2-0 at halftime.
The lone goal of the second half was scored by Allie Yeager at 7:10 into the second half on an assist from Maggie Delp.
Katie Kolobielski posted the shutout for Cape and has yielded only 4 goals through 17 games.
Cape outshot the Hillers 12-2 and had an 18-4 advantage in penalty corners.
The semifinal matchup will have Cape playing Caravel and Delmar facing Polytech.
Caravel beat Wilmington Friends 1-0 in overtime to reach the semifinals while Delmar defeated Sussex Tech 2-1
Places and times of the Thursday, Nov. 15 semifinals have yet to be announced.
