Sing-along and tree lighting to kick off Rehoboth Beach Main Street holiday events
Rehoboth Beach Main Street will present a variety of holiday events to celebrate the season.
Festivities will start with the Traditional Hometown Sing-Along and Tree Lighting Friday, Nov. 23, at the Bandstand in Rehoboth. Crowds will gather at 6 p.m. for singing led by Doug James and Nancy Joseph.
Caroling will be followed by a visit from the Clear Space Theatre cast of "A Christmas Carol." Scrooge will lead everyone in a final song before he lights the tree. This year’s tree was generously donated by Doris and Donald Donahue of Lewes.
Ginger, the Rehoboth Beach gingerbread man, will be hiding in several shops, restaurants and spas in downtown Rehoboth Sunday, Dec. 2. After spotting Ginger five times that day, shoppers can fill out a Catch a Glimpse of Ginger form and enter to win a gift basket valued at more than $2,500.
Forms are available in advance at downtownrehoboth.com, in the Cape Gazette Holiday Guide, or on Dec. 2 at the Main Street Wrapping Station in Grotto Gelato and in downtown businesses. Entries can be dropped off at the wrapping station from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. or at the convention center from 3 to 7 p.m. The drawing will be held Monday, Dec. 3 and contestants need not be present to win.
Downtown purchases can be wrapped for free by Rehoboth Beach Main Street elves at Grotto Gelato on Rehoboth Avenue from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Downtown’s Cookin’, a Community Unity event, follows. Nicola Pizza, Dos Locos, Hobos, Grotto Pizza, Cake Break, Mariachi, Jam Bistro, Modern Mixture, Touch of Italy, Henlopen City Oyster House, Eldorado, Peppers, Cilantro and the Ice Cream Store are just a few of the businesses that will be serving some of Rehoboth’s specialties to the community. There will also be entertainment by the Tim Laushey Trio, the cast of "A Christmas Carol" from Clear Space Theatre and the Pros vs. Joes Chopping Contest conducted by the Rehoboth Inspired Chefs Initiative.
Kids can attend a cooking class with the Sprouting Chef, decorate gingerbread cookies with the Bake Shoppe and create beautiful ornaments with Creatable Crafts. Everyone will have the opportunity to take part in an interactive art project with Heidi Lowe that will be displayed in First Street Station throughout the winter season.
Commissioner Pat Coluzzi will be honored as Rehoboth Beach Main Street’s Citizen of the Year at the Dec. 2 Community Unity event.
Tickets for Downtown’s Cookin’ may be purchased at the door or in advance at downtownrehoboth.com, at Snyder’s Candy, Browseabout Books, Josephine’s Daughter, Sea Shell Shop, Sea Finds and the Main Street office.
