November 16, 2012

Dorothy C. Brown, 86, of Rochester, N.Y., passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 9, after a short illness. She was born in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter of Edward R. and Clara Olson Cronin. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert O. Brown; daughter Janis (William) Avery of Ithaca, N.Y.; sisters Hilda Bissonette of Kenmore, N.Y., and Mary Grace Geyer of Alden, N.Y.; and brother Robert E. Cronin of Williamsville, N.Y. She is survived by daughters Christina Parker of Rochester, and Judith Brown of Newington, Conn.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Loraine Stipp of Corfu; brother Nelson Cronin of Alden; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Dorothy was a family-centered lady who also was employed at various times as an office worker, in retail businesses and as a hospital emergency room clerk. She was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills. She grew up in Buffalo and Alden and was an Alden High School graduate. She enjoyed travel and later lived in Lockport, Ithaca, Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Leesburg, Fla., and most recently in the Charlotte neighborhood of Rochester. While living in Delaware from 1973 to 1980, she was employed by Beebe Hospital in the Emergency Department. In her retirement years she enjoyed Wii bowling, crossword puzzles and mystery novels. She was known for her generosity, her skills in decorating and interior design, and her honest opinions. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and a friend to many, and she will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Thomas Funeral Chapel, 4545 Lake Ave., Rochester. Calling hours will begin at 10 a.m.
