Grace of God Food Club: Neighbors helping neighbors

November 20, 2012

Grace of God Food Club, a food distribution organized by Grace of God Lutheran Church volunteers, is a joint effort of several agencies and organizations.

Lutheran Community Services of Delaware provides the funding for the purchase of food from the Food Bank of Delaware’s Milford location. American Legion Post 28 provides space for the distribution of the food, and Mountaire donates fresh chicken each month. A team of more than 20 church volunteers assembles individual family boxes from the cases of purchased and donated food.

Currently, the club provides canned, fresh and frozen food once a month to 40- plus families who live in the Long Neck area. Pat and Bob Barnes of Grace of God Lutheran Church are the main coordinators behind making the food club happen every month for local residents.
