'Santa in the Hood' a new Lewes tradition

LFD to escort Saint Nick through various neighborhoods
November 26, 2012

If residents of various Lewes neighborhoods happen to hear sirens near their homes, they may want to look outside and see if Old Saint Nick is riding though.  Members of the Lewes Fire Department will be proudly carrying Santa Claus on top of a fire engine through as many neighborhoods as possible during the next month. “Santa in the Neighborhoods” dates and times are listed below.

Santa and his helpers will be out for approximately three hours each evening. Dates and times may change according to weather; go to lewesfire.com for updated information.

Below is a rough schedule of areas and the dates (weather permitting since Rudolph will not be pulling the fire engine around). Approximate time each night will be 6 to 9 p.m.

• Thursday, Nov. 29: areas encompassing those neighborhoods adjacent to the east side of Plantation Road and Route 1 between Dartmouth Drive and Route 24

• Thursday, Dec. 6: areas encompassing those neighborhoods adjacent to the north side of Route 24 and Route 9 east of Cool Spring Road and west of Plantation Road

• Thursday, Dec. 13: areas encompassing those neighborhoods adjacent to the north side of Route 9 and south of Eagle Crest Road, east of Hudson Road, including those areas of Route 1 to the Nassau Bridge.

• Thursday, Dec. 20: areas encompassing those neighborhoods adjacent to New Road, the City of Lewes and those neighborhoods east of Route 1, including Kings Highway and Clay Road.

Not all neighborhoods and streets in a neighborhood will be included for a variety of reasons.
