Alice Tomer, devoted to church

Alice Tomer, 91, of Dover formerly of N. Arlington, N.J., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012. at Westminster Village, Dover.

Mrs. Tomer was born April 30, 1921, in N. Arlington, to the late John Howard Stover and Alice King Stover.

She was a homemaker and a very devoted and wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.  Her family meant everything to her. Mrs. Tomer enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader and world traveler, as well as being very devoted to her church. She was a volunteer missionary for the Methodist Missions, traveling to India, New Mexico, Louisiana and Georgia. Mrs. Tomer was a member of the First Methodist Church of Kearny, N.J. and the Alliance Family Fellowship in Dover.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard Tomer; and brother Dr. John H. Stover.

She is survived by her daughters, Judy Hugo and her husband Frank of Gilbertsville, Pa. and Joy Tomer of Lewes; grandchildren, Jobe Tomer and Dawn Cote and her husband Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Grace and Elizabeth Cote.

A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, at Westminster Village Community Center, Dover.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Dr., Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713, or the American Lung Association, 422 S. Governors Ave., Dover, DE 19904.
