Mediacom offers $60,000 in scholarships to high school seniors

Application deadline Feb. 15, 2013
December 22, 2012

Mediacom Communications is offering $60,000 in scholarship support for high school students who are seniors and plan to obtain further education. The scholarship program is in its 12th consecutive year and will award $1,000 World Class Scholarships to 60 high school seniors. Recipients will be selected from applicants living in areas where Mediacom delivers broadband and cable services. The company’s service areas are primarily non-metro communities and counties in Midwestern states and Southeastern states, including two dozen communities in Delaware and southeastern Maryland.

Recipients may use the financial awards to support educational expenses they will incur in fall 2013 as they pursue higher education or vocational training from any accredited postsecondary institution. High schools in Mediacom-served communities were sent application materials, and applications are due on or before Feb. 15, 2013. Information and the brief application can also be found online at www.mediacomworldclass.com.

“As a company, Mediacom makes it a priority to give back to communities in which we do business, and one of the best ways is to invest in promising students who are our future leaders,” said Don Hagwell, Mediacom vice president for regional operations. Applicants do not have to be Mediacom customers but must live in areas where Mediacom provides broadband, video, phone and other digital communication services.

Hagwell suggested that the Christmas break in school calendars provides students with extra time to research scholarship options offered by local businesses and civic groups. He encourages students to contact high school counselors for Mediacom World Class Scholarship applications, or download the application online. All scholarship applications must include a brief essay on leadership and the student’s school transcript.

Downloadable applications and a listing of past scholarship recipients can be found at www.mediacomworldclass.com. Applications also are available at Mediacom customer service offices. Inquiries may be sent to scholarship@mediacomcc.com.
