LFD Auxiliary gives newborns a warm welcome

December 29, 2012

The Lewes Fire Department Auxiliary is helping to make sure all of the babies who make their debut at Beebe Medical Center get a warm welcome.

In 2011, auxiliary member Jennifer McMahon spearheaded the effort to crown each precious newborn with a cozy, hand-crocheted hat. Hundreds of babies have since gone home with the tiny head-snugglers. She has recently recruited a few more knitting elves to help with the local baby boom.

Since 1796, citizens of Lewes have stepped forward to join the ranks of the town's volunteer fire service. For over 200 years the association has been filled with men and women wanting to serve others. The LFD Auxiliary was revived in 2009 and is comprised of men and women who answer the call of the community.
