Kathleen T. Lyons, family matriarch

Kathleen T. Lyons, 82, of Lewes, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Cadbury at Lewes. She was born in County Cork, Ireland, Friday, May 16, 1930, daughter of the late Cornelius and Elizabeth (O'Brien) Carey.

Mrs. Lyons and her husband retired to Lewes from Washington, D.C. in 1984. She was a beautiful homemaker and the matriarch of the family. She and her husband were ordained eucharistic ministers for many years. She will be greatly missed by her large family and her many friends.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, James F. Lyons; six children: Kevin Lyons (Kathy) of Catonsville, Md., Dennis Lyons (Kathy) of Gaithersburg, Md., Kathleen Shortley (Brian) of Chevy Chase, Md., Thomas Lyons of Potomac, Md., Mary Cahill of Georgetown and Eileen Hardy (Kenneth) of Harbeson; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Nora Leahy of Essex, England; and many nieces and nephews. She was  recently preceded in death by her son-in-law George Cahill 2012.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 4, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, where friends may call beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Edmond Catholic Church at the above address and Delaware Hospice.
