Sussex Realtors name 2013 board of directors

January 2, 2013

Members of the Sussex County Association of Realtors recently announced their new board of directors for the 2013 calendar year. The incoming directors of the association were named during the organization’s annual banquet Dec. 14.

Taking the helm of Sussex County’s real estate trade association is Bob McVey, a Realtor with Mann & Sons Real Estate in Rehoboth Beach. A career U.S. Coast Guard man and 1980 Cape Henlopen High School graduate, McVey retired from serving his country and became a Realtor in 1994. He is now the broker at his coastal Delaware real estate agency.

He takes over the leadership position in SCAOR from Trina Joyner, a western Sussex County Realtor who saw the organization through a year that featured continued and sustained growth in southern Delaware’s real estate markets.

Sales were up significantly in each of the first three quarters of 2012 from the year prior, and they are expected to be up in the fourth quarter as well when data is released by SCAOR in the next few weeks.

“It’s been my honor to serve this fine organization as its president for the last 12 months. It’s been a learning experience for me, as well as something that I’ve taken a great deal of pride in,” says Joyner. “I’ve been fortunate to be in a leadership position during a time when the real estate market was continuing a period of growth, recovering from the recession of a few years ago. I’ve treasured my time in this role, but I’m also honored to be handing the gavel over to Bob, who I know will also do a fine job in 2013.”

Members of SCAOR’s new board of directors officially began their duties with the organization Jan. 1 and will continue in their new roles until the final calendar day of 2013. The complete board of directors for what promises to be a memorable 2013 is as follows: President Bob McVey, Mann & Sons, Rehoboth Beach; President-Elect Brad Riedle, Coldwell Banker Resort Realty, Rehoboth Beach; First Vice President Ruth Sivils, Bay Coast Realty, Rehoboth Beach; Second Vice President Fred Dean, Remax Associates, Lewes; Treasurer Debbie Brittingham, Southern Delaware Realty, Laurel; Three-Year Director Nora Martin, Remax Associates, Rehoboth Beach; Three-Year Director Bill Ferreri, Bay Coast Realty, Rehoboth Beach; Two-Year Director Marie Cahill, Connor & Jacobsen Realty Inc., Bethany Beach; Two-Year Director Paula Castiglione, Jack Lingo Realty Inc., Rehoboth Beach; One-Year Director Sean Steward, Home Team Realty, Seaford; and Past President Trina Joyner, Coldwell Banker Resort Realty, Seaford.

The responsibilities and objectives of SCAOR’s board of directors are manifold and focus on successfully promoting real estate and home ownership in Delaware’s southernmost county. But members of the board are also expected to promote and maintain high standards of conduct in the real estate profession, safeguard and advance the interests of those involved in the real estate profession and unite those engaged in real estate on local, state and national levels, among other duties.

The Sussex County Association of Realtors was chartered in 1949 and is a professional trade association with goals of carrying out a program of education and advocacy for real estate in the county.

SCAOR is a resource for the public, as well as a recognized advocate for property rights and property owners in Sussex County. The association also monitors legislative issues on the local, state and national levels that may impact home ownership in the area.
