Possum Point Players to hold auditions for "Curtains" Jan. 27 and 28

January 6, 2013

Director Jim Hartzell and the Possum Point Players have scheduled auditions for the award-winning Broadway musical "Curtains" at 7 p.m., Sunday and Monday, Jan. 27 and 28 at Possum Hall, 441 Old Laurel Highway in Georgetown.

Auditions will consist of a short musical presentation of the auditioner’s choice, readings from the script and some dance movement. Those wishing to audition should bring their own music, but piano accompaniment will be available.

With stage direction by Jim Hartzell of Georgetown, musical direction by Liz Messick of Laurel and choreography by Deni Robinson of Lewes, "Curtains" is projected to have a cast of about 20 to 30 adults 18 and up.

"Curtains" is the story of Boston’s Colonial Theatre hosting the opening night of a bold and brassy new musical, "Robbin' Hood of the Old West." When the leading lady mysteriously dies on stage, the entire cast and crew are suspects. Enter a local detective, who just happens to be a musical theater fan and aficionado.

"Curtains" opened on Broadway March 22, 2007. The musical garnered eight Tony Award nominations, with David Hyde Pierce winning the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical. The show closed June 29, 2008, after 511 performances and 23 previews. It also received 10 Drama Desk Award nominations, winning two: Outstanding Book (Rupert Holmes and Peter Stone) and Featured Actress (Debra Monk).

The show will run the weekends of April 19, 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28. Anyone wishing more information or to try out who cannot make either of the audition dates is encouraged to call Jim Hartzell at 302 856-6166 or 302-381-4898.

"Curtains" is presented through special arrangement with and all authorized performance materials are supplied by Theatrical Rights Worldwide, 570 Seventh Ave., Suite 2100, New York, N.Y. 10018; 866-378-9758; www.theatricalrights.com.
