Chilling in Dewey Beach

January 8, 2013

Dewey Business Partnership held the town’s first ever Dewey Dunk on New Year’s Day.  Dozens of visitors and residents of all ages braved the icy Atlantic Ocean to support the partnership’s year-round schedule of events.

Participants gathered around a bonfire at the beach on Dagsworthy Avenue before taking the plunge. The Lewes Volunteer Fire Department was on hand with a rescue boat and divers.  Members of the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Dewey Police Sgt. Cliff Dempsey ensured the safety of participants.

Members of Lewes Fire Department and Delaware Air Rescue Team shown standing are (l-r) Mike MacCoy, Keith Hines, Aiden Gause, Cliff Dempsey and Tim McClanahan.  Shown in front are Bob McMahon and DBP executive director Kelly Ranieri.
