Eight stores in the Tanger Outlets came together for the Third Annual A Night of Giving Dec. 11 and collected 148 gifts for families that have been financially sidetracked by a breast cancer diagnosis. They included Cole Haan, Bare Essentials, Sketchers, Vineyard Vines, Jones of New York, Nine West, Dooney & Bourke and Hartstrings.
The stores collected unwrapped gifts for men, women and children from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and offered customers light refreshments and door prizes. Donated door prizes were provided by Malibu’s Surf Shop, Seacrets, Kids Cottage, Big Chill Surf Cantina, Port restaurant and Sony. The gifts were then wrapped by volunteers from the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition. The gifts were delivered to families who have been impacted by breast cancer this year to make their holidays a little brighter.
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501c3 organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Its mission is to create a community where every person diagnosed with breast cancer is a survivor, and fear and doubt are replaced with knowledge and hope.
Headquartered in Wilmington with offices in Sussex and Kent counties, DBCC’s programs reach diverse communities to deliver messages that address unique concerns about breast cancer and early detection. Recognizing the barriers of language, culture and economics, DBCC trains community advocates to educate and encourage women to take responsibility for their breast health.
DBCC helps women with low incomes or those with little or no insurance to receive free or reduced-cost care. DBCC also supports the National Breast Cancer Coalition and its research efforts by helping facilitate participation in local clinical trials.
