Judith E. Gordon, loved Rehoboth Beach

January 10, 2013

Judith Eakin Gordon, 73, of McLean, Va., and Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, after a courageous battle against multiple organ failure. Her son, Reilly John Gordon, her nephew Tim Walsh and his wife Ayda were by her side in her final moments.

Known to all as “Judy,” she was born in Washington, D.C., on Feb. 13, 1939, to Ruth Reilly and John Richard Eakin. Judy is survived by her son Reilly Gordon of McLean; and her siblings Suzanne “Sue” Eakin Jones (Kenneth), Elizabeth “Betsy” Eakin Walsh, John “Jock” Richard Eakin Jr. (Anne) and Nancy “Nan” Eakin Brodsky (Mark); nine nephews and nieces; and several cousins.

Judy had many interests, hobbies and friends, but over the last 20 years, Rehoboth Beach was her sanctuary. Every early spring, she would make her way to the shore with nothing standing in her way, so excited to get there, she occasionally exceeded the posted speed limit. Once at the beach, she would contact her close friends, those who were there for the season and those who lived there year round. It was always a good time in Rehoboth Beach. All the sisters together enjoyed their Scrabble games and crossword puzzles.

Judy loved cats, big and small. Her beloved Siamese, Pete, was with her for 20 years, never leaving her side.

Judy attended Georgetown Visitation and later graduated from Bennett College. Sweetness, style and smarts were three words that would begin to describe Judy. She will be missed by all.

A celebration of Judy’s life will be held at noon, Saturday, Jan. 12, at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad St., Falls Church, Va., with a memorial visitation beginning at 11:15 a.m. Contributions may be made in her name to a charity of choice.
