Breast Cancer Coalition to host Southern Lights of Life gala Feb. 23 at Dover Downs

January 19, 2013

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition announces that it will host its 10th Annual Southern Lights of Life gala from 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. Southern Lights of Life is southern Delaware’s premier breast cancer fundraiser with all funds benefiting DBCC’s programs and services in Kent and Sussex counties. Each year, community members support the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition’s Southern Lights of Life gala through donations, volunteering, sponsorships and attendance in a community effort to come together and take action to defeat breast cancer.

Southern Lights of Life features gourmet dinner and cocktails, live and silent auctions, live entertainment and an upbeat fashion show featuring models that are also local breast cancer survivors. Individual reservations are $150 each with various levels of sponsorship beginning at $500. Live and silent auction items are donated by local businesses of various industries including travel, sports, entertainment, dining, beauty and more.

This year live entertainment sponsored by Harrington Raceway will be provided by In Gratitude, a tribute band to Earth, Wind & Fire. The Mari Hill band will also be performing. The fashion show will feature 10 breast cancer survivors from Kent and Sussex counties donning fashions from local shops.

The 2013 Southern Lights of Life co-chairs are Gerri Coble and Michele Domenick, MD. This year’s honorary chairs are Patti Key, DBCC board vice president and CEO of Harrington Raceway and Casino, and Howell Wallace, president of the Mid-Del Foundation.

The generous support of the community enabled DBCC to raise $156,000 at the 2012 Southern Lights of Life event with more than 450 attendees. The funds were used to expand programs in Kent and Sussex counties which increase breast cancer awareness, promote the importance of early detection, provide access to mammograms, and provide support and resources to women and men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

This event has sold out in previous years. To make reservations online, visit www.debreastcancer.org/SLOL. For information about sponsorships, advertising, and item donation, go to the website.

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501c3 organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. For more information, call 866-312-DBCC (3222) or go to www.debreastcancer.org.
