IMC-Lewes to present meditation events with Jon Waterman Feb. 1-2

On the first weekend of February, Insight Meditation Community of Lewes will welcome the return of meditation teacher Jon Waterman for an evening Dharma talk and full-day meditation retreat on the 2013 topic, Buddhism in Everyday Life - Living the Dharma.

The Dharma (Buddhist teachings) talk will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1, at St. Peter's Parish Hall in Lewes and will be followed by discussion and refreshments.

The meditation retreat will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Lewes Public Library. Sitting and walking meditation, light stretching, tai chi and a vegetarian lunch are included. No meditation experience is necessary. All are invited to attend this weekend of learning to live more presently with oneself and the world in the new year.

Waterman began practicing yoga and meditation while teaching martial arts in the early '70s, with a concentration since 1994 on Buddhist insight meditation. His workshops and retreats focus on strengthening continuity of present-moment awareness by combining mindful movement, insight dialogue and meditation techniques.

Waterman has a personal coaching practice and is a founding partner of Mind Body Health Associates, a group dedicated to bringing applied mindfulness, via Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction programs, to hospitals, universities and the workplace. He has been leading stress management programs within the Maryland Department of Corrections since 2000.

The suggested donation for Friday's talk is $10. St. Peter's Episcopal Parish Hall is at 211 Mulberry St. near Second Street in Lewes. The suggested retreat donation is $45, which includes lunch. The Lewes Public Library is at 111 Adams Ave. off Kings Highway in Lewes. Chairs are provided, and attendees should bring their favorite floor cushions, blankets and support for sitting.
