CHEF's Winter Jam will light up the night Jan. 25

January 18, 2013

The Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation's 6th Annual Winter Jam fundraiser, Under the Boardwalk, promises to heat up Friday, Jan. 25, from 7 to 11 p.m., at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.

In keeping with dreams of endless summers, boardwalk fare like pizza, hot dogs, and fries will be served up to the music of the Wise Guys and The Funsters.

The Wise Guys is a local rock band that is on its second run as a group. The musicians, all from the Lewes/Milton area, played together in the late 1980s and '90s. Disbanded for nearly 12 years, they got back together for what they thought was a one-night stand for a fundraiser, but they enjoyed the reunion and decided to continue their collaboration. The band features three Cape graduates, Michael Daisey, Dave Ducote and Scott Gordy. Other members are Rick Tressati and Nelson Pennypacker.

The Wise Guys’ playlist is classic rock, from the '70s to today, with influences from the Allman Brothers, John Cougar, the Doors and Matchbox 20.

Proceeds from Winter Jam benefit students and teachers in the Cape Henlopen School District. Grants from CHEF help district employees provide innovative, creative, student-focused projects for the classroom, such as arts enrichment education and general support and recognition of students and teachers in the district. Past recipients used the grants to take students on field trips, purchase new books or other resources to enhance classroom activities or add technology in their classrooms.
