Scott Kevin Smith, granary inspector

January 20, 2013

Scott Kevin Smith, 49, of Millsboro, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.

Born April 13, 1963, in Salisbury, Md., he was the son of the late Joshua William Smith and Mary Lou Wooten Smith who survives him. He was a granary inspector for the Mountaire Company (formerly Townsends Inc.) for 28 years. He liked fishing and the beach, and was a NASCAR fan, particularly of Mark Martin No. 6. In addition, he liked movies and car races of all kinds. Particularly, he was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan. He liked driving motorcycles and was a hardworking, neat as a pin man who was independent and funny. Some considered him a neat freak. He was quiet and shy, very easygoing and a man of few words. He was very devoted to his kids, and loved to help his children in every way he could.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his children: Jason, Jennifer and Jordan Smith. He is also survived by his fiancé, Mary Wallace, and her children: Paul, Dean and Leslie Cooper, whom he thought of as his own as well. He is also survived by his two brothers: Gregory and James Smith. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dean Smith, and his stepfather, Kenneth Layton. It would not be fitting to neglect his beloved canine friend and greatest buddy, Scrappy, who survives him.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior for visitation and viewing. Interment follows with Pastor Allen Miller officiating.
