Sarah S. Ross, devout Catholic

Sarah S. Ross, 85, of Lewes, formerly of King of Prussia, Pa., passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Cadbury Assisted Living Facility in Lewes. She was born Nov. 6, 1927, in Shenandoah, Pa., daughter of Darby and Anna McCormack.

After 25 years service with SuperFresh in Pennsylvania, she and her husband Jack retired to Lewes.  Her activities included: member of the Indian River Yacht Club, Elks Lodge, Zwaanendael Women's Club, docent for the Lewes Historical Society, CHEER, Lewes and Cape Henlopen senior centers.

Sarah loved a good game of bingo. She was an avid crafter and gardener and spent many hours completing word searches to keep her mind active. Sarah also enjoyed road trips to the casino where she would play the slot machines.

Sarah was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Edmond Catholic Church, Rehoboth, and most recently St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes. She was a member of St. Edmond Sodality and Sewing Group, St. Jude Environmental Committee, pastoral and financial committees, and Columbiettes.

Sara was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Jack Ross; a son: Paul; and a daughter: Maureen. She is survived by her son: Lemuel and wife Nancy of Quakertown, Pa.; daughter: Sarah of Lewes; son: Michael and wife Susan of Phoenixville, Pa.; son: Jeremiah and wife Barbara of Uncasville, Conn.; and daughter: Anne Pugliese of Phoenixville; grandchildren: Katy Smith, Sarah Noel, Nicole Tudor, Stephen Ross, Alexandra Ross, Theresa Tamarro, Lauren Ross; great-grandchildren: Cloe Stadelmaier, Quentin and Clayton Smith; Jesse and Kaley Tudor; Peyton Tamarro; a sister: Sister Maureen Dennis, IHM of Immaculata, Pa.; and brother: Dennis McCormack of Blenheim, N.J.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Rosary recitation will begin at the church at 9:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a memorial donation in Mrs. Ross's honor may be made to St. Jude Building Fund, 152 Tulip Lane, Lewes, DE 19958, or VITAS Hospice Care, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.
