Sister Cities Association thanks Rehoboth

January 31, 2013

The following letter was sent to the mayor and commissioners of Rehoboth Beach with a copy submitted to the Cape Gazette for publication.

On behalf of the Rehoboth Beach Sister Cities Association Board, we would like to thank you for all your work and support over the last several years with our Sister City of Greve, Italy. We are especially pleased that you have approved the addition of a garden in Cranberry Park to celebrate our Sister Cities relationship. We believe it will be a true asset to all of our Rehoboth citizens as well!

Nothing has made us prouder than to participate in the official meetings both in Greve and in Rehoboth, honoring the signing and implementation of our excellent Sister Cities agreement. We are so pleased that the mayors of both cities, their commissioners, as well as our RBSCA board have facilitated such a wonderful partnership in the true spirit of Sister Cities goals.

Our common goals of sharing educational programs, arts and cultural tourism and economic development have made our joint Sister Cities official agreement so special. Our sister city, Greve is also pleased with the relationship and as you know has stepped forward to implement a wonderful Rehoboth Garden in their medieval city in Chianti.

Greve has also sent Italian students for a cultural exchange to study in Rehoboth while students from Rehoboth are also invited to have an educational stay in Greve. Greve hosted the City of Rehoboth delegation on at least two occasions in 2010 and 2012 in Greve/Florence and celebrated several art programs at the Rehoboth Art League and in Greve.

In honor of our agreement between our cities, and timed for their visit in June 2013, the RBSCA’s board presented to the city and our citizens, a garden plan. This approved garden improvement represents a contribution to our city commemorating that Rehoboth was mapped by Italian navigators in the 1500s. The State of Delaware’s Historical and Cultural Affairs Department has a copy of the original map by Giovanni Verrazano in the Delaware Archives.

The RBSCA board fully supports this agreement and looks forward to working with the City in a timely implementation. Thank you so much for your cooperation.
