Jane and Georgie building set to move
It appears the building that houses Jane and Georgie’s in Rehoboth Beach will move to West Rehoboth.
Jane and Georgie co-owner George Chambers said Delmarva Power is expected to come in Feb. 1 to move its lines in anticipation of the move. He said mover John Davidson is still working on his plan for moving the structure; Chambers said the move could happen as soon as early next week, although no date has been set.
Once moved to West Rehoboth, the building will provide affordable housing for a family. The Coalition for West Rehoboth had hoped to save the building before it was scheduled to be demolished, but it was facing a time crunch because Jane and Georgie's owners are clearing the space for a new store they hope to open by spring.
Kevin McKinney, project director for the coalition, said the coalition has raised $10,000 to move the building and are now working out a schedule. The original target date was Feb. 19 or Feb. 20, but it could occur sooner.
Once the building is moved, McKinney said the coalition would need to raise another $25,000 to build a foundation so the house can be rented. He said the building would be stored on the lot while the coalition works on fundraising.
“It all worked out,” he said.
