Irish Society of DelMarVa announces scholarship

The Irish Society of DelMarVa  announces the 2013 Thomas Winnberg scholarship, a $500 bookstore credit for textbooks. This scholarship is open to all graduating high school seniors in Kent and Sussex counties who are going on to postsecondary education. The award will be based on academic performance, extracurricular and community involvement, and an essay discussing the applicant’s academic goals for the coming school year.

Applications are available at high school guidance offices, or they may be requested directly from ISOD. Requests for applications may be sent by electronic mail to JPL61@verizon.net (with “ISOD scholarship” in the subject line) or by U.S. mail to: ISOD Scholarship, 323 Columbia Ave., Dover, DE 19904. All requests must include the applicant’s name, U.S. postal address, telephone number and high school name. Applications will be sent to requesting students via U.S. mail.

Completed applications must be received by the scholarship committee not later than Saturday, May 18. Copies of all data submitted by the front-running applicant will be forwarded to his/her guidance counselor for review and certification. Neither a transcript nor a letter of recommendation is required or desired.

The Winnberg scholarship is offered annually by the Irish Society of DelMarVa. Founded in 1990 by Tom Winnberg, ISOD is a social group with interests in Irish/Celtic culture, history and music. More information about ISOD and its programs is available by email to ISOD@comcast.net.
