Dominick Scaglione, mechanical engineer
Dominick Scaglione, 70, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his beloved family and friends, Friday, Feb. 1, 2013. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Dec. 24, 1942, son of the late Frank and Anna Scaglione.
Dominick grew up in Brooklyn, graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School and attended Brooklyn Community College. He moved to New Jersey once he met his future wife Susan. Dominick worked for several companies in New Jersey as a mechanical engineer specializing in packaging machinery; his last position was at Johnson & Johnson in Hopewell, N.J.
In 2003 Dominick and Susan built their future retirement home in Rehoboth Beach where they spent weekends until Dominick’s retirement. Upon retiring in 2006, Mr. Scaglione moved permanently to Rehoboth Beach where he started his own handyman business, Mr. Dom, Odd Jobs & Finishing Touches. He was a jack-of-all-trades and a perfectionist in all that he did.
He was an avid salt water fisherman, spending many wonderful hours on his Grady White fishing the ocean and Delaware Bay. He also played a pretty good game of golf. One of his other favorite things to do was to cook breakfast for his beloved twin grandsons. He also made them a special dessert which they called the “grandpa special.”
In addition to his loving wife of 45 years Susan Scaglione, Dominick is survived by his daughter Kristin Gemma and her husband Steven of Stewartsville, N.J.; his son Robert Scaglione and his wife Maryann of Stewartsville, N.J.; and his twin grandsons, William and Thomas Gemma. Dominick is also survived by his three sisters: Helen Scaglione and Mary Ann Bosso both of Brooklyn and Dolores Bowman and her husband Glenn of Ocala, Fla.; his brother-in-law Peter Zocchi and his wife Susan of the Bronx, N.Y.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m., Wednesday and from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes. Burial will at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Pilottown Road, Lewes, following Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
