I have every right to place a political sign in my front yard. There is one right now, a sign for Milton mayoral candidate Marion Jones. I support her and all the good she will bring to the Town of Milton. I also have the right to put a sign in my yard that pictures a man shouting "No More Newlands!" To display these signs is my constitutional right.
While I mean no disrespect to the office of mayor, and wish no ill will to my neighbor, Cliff Newlands, I do take issue with his continued disregard for the citizens of Milton. We have higher taxes now, and face it, the recent pay raise for town employees was a mess. That pay raise was the exact opposite of what the majority of town council voted to approve. I believe the mayor unilaterally took the council's decision away from them by giving 3 percent across-the-board raises rather than merit-based raises as proposed by council.
In my opinion, there has been too much funny business going on for far too long at Milton Town Hall. I go to meetings. I know what I know. There has been too little transparency. Then, of course, there was the poorly planned water tower referendum and so much the public was never told, even though the administration knew we were missing huge amounts of unaccounted-for water and we had been delisted from the application process well before the plans for the referendum went forward.
I have to say enough is enough! When will it stop? This is why the time is so right to elect Marion Jones as mayor of Milton.
