Lewes Public Library expands offerings in Delaware Room

Through a cooperative arrangement between the Sussex County Genealogical Society and the Lewes Public Library, more than 50 new titles on the history and genealogy of Sussex County and Delaware have been added to the library’s Delaware Collection for the benefit of local researchers.

The books were donated to the Genealogical Society by member Willard Saunders, and the society approached the library for help in making the collection available to the public. "Working with Sussex County libraries is an important part of the educational mission of the society," said society President Diann Sherwin, "and we are eager to strengthen our relationship with the Lewes library."

The Saunders Collection contains extensive documentation on the history and people of Colonial Delaware. “It’s certainly a great boon to our members and guests to have the Delaware Collection readily available for their research needs,” said library Director Ed Goyda. “We’re thankful that the genealogical society approached us with this idea that’s allowed us to expand the resources that we can offer.”

Saunders is a retired federal government employee interested in Colonial American genealogy and history. His Delaware interest is the Truitt family. His donation was made in appreciation of the volunteers and mission of the Sussex County Genealogical Society.
