Shelton twins join mom in 1,000-point club
History was made and remade at Indian River during a girls' basketball game Feb. 16 as the Indians hosted nearby Stephen Decatur from Berlin, Md.
The senior Shelton twins, Keiosha and Keeonya, both scored their 1,000th points in the first half of the same ball game. And as icing on top of the cake, Abbey Schor of Stephen Decatur also scored her 1,000th point.
The cherry on top of the cake was Sabrina Leonard Shelton, the mother of the Shelton twins, who was a 1,000-point scorer for the Indians during her playing career, 1976 to 1979.
Charles Shelton, a longtime basketball official downstate and father of the twins, said, "I don’t think twins getting their thousandth point in the same game and their mom also being a thousand-point scorer has even happened before, but you can check.”
No need to check, Charles; it has never happened.
The Indians won the game 61-48.
Keiosha was the 2012 Division II 100-meter state champion. Both girls are top-flight academic students who are college bound.
Sabrina Leonard was a first team all-state selection in 1978 and 1979.
