February 26, 2013

Robert G. H. Lear, 39, died Wednesday, Dec.12, 2012.  Despite his young age, Rob was an old soul whose heart of gold was rooted in kindness, compassion and caring for others.

Born in Lancaster, Pa. and graduated from Lancaster Country Day School. His memories of summers in Maine and Lewes brought him great joy. His adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors took him to New Zealand, Costa Rica, Chile, Sweden, Canada and all 50 states. Proud to call the outdoors his office, he found his calling mentoring youth as a therapeutic field guide in Utah.

Encouraged by his coworkers in wilderness therapy to continue his education, he earned a bachelor of science degree in social work from the University of Utah in 2007 followed by his master's in social work from the University of Texas at Austin in 2010.  He continued to impact the lives of youth as a therapist in North Carolina and Oregon.

A skilled creative writer, Rob also loved big dogs, playing tennis and listening to music, including jazz, funk and alternative bands.

Rob will remain in the hearts of his mother, Amy Orr Lear; sisters; extended family and host of friends.
