Astronomy society, space sciences foundation announce events

Regular meeting set March 7

The monthly meeting of the Sussex County Astronomy Society will be held from 6 to 7:45 p.m., Thursday, March 7. The society meets on the first Thursday of each month in the second-floor meeting room of the Milton Public Library at 121 Union St., Milton. This is free and open to the public.

The society and the Delmarva Space Sciences Foundation will be working in conjunction with the Assateague Island National Seashore to present an evening under the stars from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, March 9.

There will be a speaker from NASA, a discussion of what is visible in the night sky and multiple telescopes viewing numerous celestial wonders. There will be handouts for those attending. Children are encouraged to bring parents along. The events will be for people of all ages. Hot chocolate will be available if the evening is cool.

The society and the foundation will host Boardwalk Astronomy events from 8 to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30, in Rehoboth Beach. There will be multiple telescopes for the public to use and various other equipment to demonstrate. People will be available to explain what can be seen, even in the lighted area of the Boardwalk. Handouts will be available . Everything is free and open to the public.
