Dewey 'Duke' Feist, put family first

Dewey Feist, known as “Duke,” 86 of Lewes, was suddenly taken from us Friday, March 1, 2013, doing one of the many things he enjoyed in his life. His constant smile and laughter will be missed by all who knew him.

Duke was born and raised in White Haven, Pa., then moved to Delaware, where he worked and retired from Delmarva Power after 30 years. Duke proudly served his country in the Navy aboard the USS Brooklyn during World War II.

He was a member of Long Neck United Methodist Church, where he met many of his friends who he enjoyed going to lunch with after church. Duke went on many vacations to Key West, Disney, Maine, Vermont, and Ocean City, Md. with his family. He also liked to play the slot machines.

Duke was a kind, loving father and grandfather who always put family first throughout his life. He loved his grandson Matthew Schneiders with all of this heart, and was always there for his son, Jim, and daughter, Nancy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta; and a sister, Jean Wildrick. He will be dearly missed by his son, James and wife Linda Feist of Lewes; a daughter, Nancy Schneiders and husband Jeff Bartels of Middletown; a grandson, Matthew Schneiders of Middletown; a brother, George Feist and his wife Merna of Wilmington; a sister, Dorothy Adams of White Haven; along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear friends, Al, Lena, Rose and Mike who he thought the world of.

Services to celebrate Duke’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 7, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 1:30 p.m.
