Epworth to host the Inspirational Gospel Choir March 13

Bethune-Cookman University group on spring tour
March 10, 2013

Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach will host the Inspirational Gospel Choir from Bethune-Cookman University of Daytona Beach, Fla., who will be on their spring choir tour. The concert will begin at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, in the Sanctuary following the weekly Lenten Soup & Share at 5:30 p.m., and the Vesper Service at 6:10 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.

The gospel choir is an extracurricular activity consisting of dedicated individuals who exemplify a deep appreciation for the music they sing.  The choir renders a wide range of music, including rock and jazzy gospel, contemporary and blues gospel, as well as a cappella renditions.

During the spring vacation period, the choir schedules a 10-day tour which include performances in Alabama, California, Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Ohio, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, and New York.

The gospel choir’s crowning achievement was being invited to participate in a Black History Month celebration by the U.S. Navy at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, Calif., and being invited by Tipper Gore, wife of Vice President Al Gore to perform at the 52nd Inaugural Prayer Services in Washington, D.C. Jan. 20, 1993. Only three choirs in the United States were invited to perform and the Inspirational Gospel Choir from Bethune-Cookman University was the only choir invited from Florida.

The choir presently has a CD available, “Songs Of Inspiration,” that contains some of today’s hottest contemporary gospel hits.
