Stockley Materials will open its second garden center at the corner of Route 9 and Nassau Commons Boulevard Monday, March 11.

The compound offers decorative stone, topsoil, mulch and pavers, said Ken Adams, president of Melvin L. Joseph Construction Co., which operates the garden centers. The Georgetown location opened in 2006.

The construction company does a lot of land-clearing, but the landfill stopped taking that kind of debris.

"For us, it was self-serving to start recycling it,” Adams said. “When we started, we took wood debris from residents and then recycled it into mulch.”

Residents can drop off any natural yard waste, including grass clippings, for a fee, starting at $10, Adams said. The yard waste is collected in a large bin then transported to Georgetown for processing.

Stockley sells to homeowners and contractors. In the next month, Adams hopes to set up displays showcasing various pavers in front of the Nassau store.

“We wanted to move here because we have many customers in this area. We felt there was a demand here,” Adams said of the new, leased location. “You can't beat this location.”

The garden center will be open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
