Tides Behavioral Health now offers reiki

Hemmerich joins Lewes office
March 14, 2013

Reiki master and national certified counselor Toni Hemmerich has joined The Tides Behavioral Health in Lewes.

Hemmerich will practice at the Schley Avenue offices on Fridays. She combines the Japanese art of touch known as reiki to reduce stress, and counsels patients who experience depression and anxiety or those dealing with pain.

“It is beneficial to many patients to use both reiki and psychotherapy,” Hemmerich said.

She said reiki philosophy holds the body has a natural vibration, but when the vibration is too low, illness sets in. She works with patients to raise the vibration to ward off illnesses.

“People come to me for different reasons. Some want spiritual direction for growth and transformation, while others are seeking help for depression or anxiety,” Hemmerich said. “Some patients are looking for help with illnesses and cancer.”

She doesn't accept insurance, but Hemmerich said she tries to set reasonable rates. Customers pay $100 for a 90-minute session and $75 for a 60-minute session.

“I often work on breathing and mindfulness with clients,” she said. “I do a lot of education on chakras and use cognitive behavior therapies. Each person is different and I try to create a personalized experience.”

A chakra is one of the seven energy centers within the body according to traditional teachings.

Hemmerich owns and operates Trinity Healing Center for counseling and holistic healing in Wilmington, where she lives with her husband and two children, who are also reiki masters, near Wilmington.

She joins the group of therapists at The Tides Behavioral Health, including psychologist Elizabeth McCaffrey, nurse practioner Jan Bruce, licensed social worker Perrin Smith and licensed counselors Les Binnix and Beth Joselow. The practitioners offer a variety of approaches to behavioral health issues for children, adolescents and adults.

She has a masters of science in pastoral counseling from Neumann University, and is a certified Karuna reiki master, having completed programs at the International Center for Reiki Training in Southfield, Mich., and the Infinite Light Healing Studies Center in Sedona, Ariz.
